John Krawchuk Executive Director john.krawchuk@parks.nyc.gov "During my 19 years as Director of Historic Preservation for NYC Parks, I had the pleasure of working on 22 of the 23 historic houses. “Historic preservation is more relevant than ever in this fast paced ever changing society in which we live. Preserving our history through our 23 historic house sites helps us to gain perspective on the past and by using this perspective, can help us to address current day issues.”

Lisa Anderson, Communications and Marketing Coordinator

“My favorite thing about historic houses is that I can feel like a time traveler stepping out of the modern era and exploring the past of others. Learning about their lives by looking at their everyday objects and seeing how different and similar their lives were compared to mine.” “My favorite project that I have worked on is the wallpaper cleaning at Morris-Jumel Mansion Museum.”

I love working for Historic House Trust and in conservation because I am able to help preserve the Museums so that the next generation will be able to visit and appreciate NYC’s rich history. My favorite thing about Historic Houses is that I get the opportunity to climb up on the roofs, attics, and basements and uncover historic artifacts that many people don’t get to see. One of my favorite experiences is looking at sun set from the roof top of Bartow-Pell Mansion.
